Fast Company: Google’s Chrome OS Probably Not in Your Future

Fast Company has an article explaning why they don’t see the new Chrome OS being very useful to people.

My attitude is largely a wait and see at this point. I don’t see the Chromse OS becoming very widely used early on. The most interesting question to me is: what will operating systems be like in 5 years and 10 years? They could be very different, and Chrome could be a step helping move us along. We’ll see.

It might take off if Google gave it away for free for a couple years…?

with the release of Google Chrome and Microsoft Bing search engine, one would expect that there would be a very stiff competition between Google and Microsoft.

Chrome OS is just based on Linux and it is not really a “real” proprietary operating system from Google. i wonder if Google would also compete with MS Windows in the future.

I have been playing with a dev version for a couple of days now and find that it may be useful as a second OS on your laptop or netbook. Use case: at a hot-spot area and would like to securely surf the web and start doing so immediately.
